When Men

When men were men

And women sighed and fell into their arms.

The ready sword and tightened clasp

Had kept them all from harm.

The world today’s a’changing;

The enemy far and wide.

But the men today fall cringing

At the vast and bloody tide.

The warriors are but history

As our women flail about.

They’ve lost their loved protector,

Of that there is no doubt.

The swords hang dull and rusted

As the blood seeps ever near.

And our women weep in sorrow

For the men of yesteryear.
